Mission Statement

I want to help writers create strong stories that will engage readers, and bring stories into a world that all too often celebrates darkness by injecting stories with light and truth.

Stories are powerful. They can impact lives, and bring people out of the darkness with hope and grace and mercy. There is a vital truth that the darkness doesn't like people knowing, and I want to help inject the world with stories of light. The light of the greatest Storyteller.

"Light" doesn't mean nothing bad ever happens ever, or heroes don't make spectacular mistakes, or nobody ever dies. But "light" in the sense that, no matter what happens, the dark doesn't win the war.

And I want to bring stories of all kinds to the lives of readers who need this light and truth. To a world that so badly needs this light and truth.

What IS a Developmental Edit?

Characters, plot, worldbuilding, and theme are all part of the fundamental pillars of a story. And a developmental edit (or a substantive or content edit) looks at the big picture. I'll help you make sure your story's plot doesn't have a saggy middle, story worlds are vibrant and consistent, characters stay on track, and much more!

I love helping other writers make their story great. I love watching that moment where everything comes together.

So let's make that happen.

So What Happens?

First things first, I want to make sure you and I are a good fit!

Send me an email with your manuscript's summary, genre, word count, and anything else I should know (deadline dates, for example), and we'll decide if I'm the best fit for you and your story! It's hard sometimes to let someone else look at your story, but I promise, it'll give you a major boost in the publishing world, and your story will become the best it can be.

But if you're still not sure, you can send me the first chapter of your novel, or the first ten pages, whichever comes first (so if your first chapter is twenty pages long, you send me the first ten pages), and I will edit that sample for you to decide if I'm the best fit for your story. Easy-peasy!

And if we decide I am the right editor for the job, fantastic! I can't wait to start working with you! Next, we'll discuss payment (the total will not include the pages edited for the sample), deadlines, and any other pertinent details. Then I'll send over a contract, so we're both on the same page and everything is agreed upon. After that, on the set date, you send me your manuscript (Word files or GoogleDocs work best), and the first half of the agreed upon payment.

Then I'll get to work! I'll go over everything from plot and character to theme and subtext, and all the in between! I'll also take a look at anything you have particular concerns about. We're in this together, and I want you to feel confident that all bases are covered, and your story will be the best it can be!

What Do You Get?

When I'm done going through your manuscript, I will send you my notes and comments (a Word file will have margin notes). I will also send a file of my notes, observations, and suggestions. Everything you might need to tackle revisions with the best battle plan!

When you've reviewed the notes, let me know what you think! I'm happy to help brainstorm, or just a clarification. I want you to have all the tools you need to begin edits, so don't be afraid to reach out if you have questions or concerns!

This is also where I will ask for the second half of the payment.

Pricing

My rate is $0.004/word, rounded to the nearest hundred. If you're still working on your story before you're ready for me to edit, no worries! There is a 2,000 buffer, so the payment we agree on doesn't change wildly and leave us both scrambling.

So what this means is if your story is 50,000 words when you contact me, I would tell you the payment total would be $200. And when your manuscript is ready for edits, you find your final word count is now 51,000 words, it's all good! Your total payment is still $200!

But if your final word count has jumped up to 53,000 words, then the payment total will change to reflect the new word count, and the total would be $212.

The same scenario goes for if the word count drops. If the final count remains within 2,000 words of the estimated word count, no pricing change is needed. Only if the final word count exceeds the 2,000 word count will the price total change.

I'm also happy to discuss payment options too! Just send me an email, and we'll see what we can do.

Terms of Service & Privacy

I reserve the right to decline any projects at my discretion, for any reason. I also reserve the right to cancel a project (should an emergency arise that prevents me from continuing, or some such event), with appropriate refund to the client as stated in the contract.

The current rates may be subject to change, as I gain experience over time. I will provide ample notice of any upcoming changes. I will not share your personal information OR your manuscript to any third party.
